The earth in 2069 comes under attack by aliens. Once of a sudden, 70% of the world's countries and regions fall. China's soon-to-be-retired second-generation aircraft carrier—16A, survives by using ultra-short-wave communications to avoid signal interference from the enemy's new technology.

The unarmed 16A returns to the mainland from the South China Sea carrying civilians and wounded, but loses contact with the ground operations command, and the old captain is seriously injured in the attack.
